Description
Manuka honey is a special kind of honey from New Zealand that packs a serious antibacterial punch. Its been used for centuries by indigenous Maoris who would boil the leaves and inhale the vapours or burn the bark and rub the ashes into their skin. As far as Manuka honey is concerned, its antibacterial properties are achieved by the help of some honey bees.
These bees go from Manuka bush to Manuka bush to collect nectar rich in naturally occurring DHA. This DHA is then converted in MGO (methylglyoxal) during the honey-making process, and the more MGO, the more antibacterial goodness! To make sure you’re getting the real deal, Manuka Lab test each batch of honey for MGO levels, NPA (non-peroxide activity) and four Manuka-specific chemical markers before it even leaves the shores of New Zealand.
What are the benefits of Manuka Lab Manuka honey?
Manuka honey is a natural solution for those annoying coughs and colds that pop up more when the weather gets a little colder. This MGO 850 Manuka honey has impressively high levels of antibacterial properties.
Where does Manuka Lab Manuka Honey come from?
New Zealand is an unspoiled paradise island, where diverse and exotic plants flourish. One of these plants is the indigenous Manuka bush, which is where the Manuka honey journey begins. Manuka Lab work mostly in the East Cape of New Zealand, where some of the world’s finest Manuka can be found.
Traceability is high up on Manuka Lab’s list, too. They believe that the best honey is always going to be produced by healthy bees with well-maintained hives, that’s why each hive is fitted with a unique electronic ID tag, which each beekeeper uses to record hive action so it can be monitored. This process ensures every batch of Manuka honey is of the finest quality.

In 2018, we made the decision as a brand to adopt new stringent guidelines, in line with the New Zealand government approved standard, that ensured customers know they are buying genuine New Zealand Manuka Honey. Testing in both New Zealand, where our Manuka honey is harvested, and by Fera labs in the UK, ensures customers only get the purest, strongest, undiluted Manuka Honey, where antibacterial strength is measured and presented in a robust and transparent way.
