What is Zerocream Dry Skin Emollient?
Zerocream is an emollient used in the treatment of dry skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, and ichthyosis. It helps to relieve dry, flaking, itchy symptoms and restores moisture into the skin leaving it soft and hydrated. Zerocream contains 27% paraffin, more specifically liquid paraffin and white soft paraffin.
How to use this product
Always use this product exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you. For best results, apply Zerocream directly to the affected areas of skin 2-3 times daily. Smooth the product gently onto the skin in the direction of hair growth, avoid vigorously rubbing in the product as this can worsen irritated skin.
Zerocream does not leave a greasy residue and it can be used as an alternative to soap. Although it won’t foam like normal soaps, it is still just as effective at cleaning the skin while retaining moisture. Preferably, emollients should be used after bathing or showering as this is when the skin can lose a lot of moisture and become dry. After washing with Zerocream pat the skin dry with a towel, do not rub.
How does paraffin relieve dry skin?
Liquid paraffin and white soft paraffin are commonly used in skincare products due to their soothing and hydrating properties. These kinds of paraffin form a protective barrier over the skin to lock in moisture. They prevent moisture loss from the skin caused by eczema, psoriasis, etc, and when used consistently as prescribed, the skin remains hydrated and flare-ups of dry, itchy skin are prevented.
What causes dry skin?
Dry skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis can run in families but there are many environmental factors that can trigger dry skin. These include:
-
Harsh soaps and detergents that can strip the natural oils from the skin
-
Extreme weather, particularly in cold and low humidity climates
-
Heat from central heating, wood stoves, and fireplaces
-
Hot baths and showers
-
Old age – ageing skin is thin and loses natural oils that are essential for keeping the skin hydrated
-
Medication – dry skin can be a side effect of some types of medication
